The Montreal Urban Ecology Centre/Centre D’ecologie Urbaine Montreal’s mission is to build and share expertise concerning the most viable approaches to sustainable urban development in order to contribute to a green and democratic Montreal.
Inspired by social ecology, the Centre questions the relationship between nature and society. Our work favours action at the neighbourhood and city levels in order to bring about transformation in ways of thinking and living with respect to social and environmental right of citizens to take part in decisions that relate to the planning and management of urban affairs. Thus the programmes we develop reflect these values, and perspective of social ecology, and we use them to challenge the social relationships that currently exist and that in there present forms. Specific actions that allow advances while endeavouring to understand and act with respect to the social relationships that impede the implementation of the changes required to address these issues adequately.
