On November 12th, 2015 TCAT, in partnership with GreenUP and the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI), kicked off the visioning phase of the Peterborough-based Active Neighbourhoods Project with a professional planning and design charrette. This workshop built on the research and engagement activities of the past year, which contributed to the Stewart Street Neighbourhood Portrait.

The unqiue ingredients of the neighbourhood portrait include: community asset-mapping activities; a resident travel survey and communty street audits; secondary data describing local demographics, travel patterns, and the physical form of the neighbourhood.

During the workshop, members of the professional planning community from Peterborough and the surrounding area worked collaboratively with local residents and the Active Neighbourhoods Project Team to begin proposing designs for local streets and public spaces. Information from the portrait informs the design phase as well as the goal to improve conditions for safe active travel and the vibrancy of local public spaces.

In the coming months, the designs will be validated with local residents through community forums and other community events to continue engaging citizens in the process of refining and prioritizing ideas for inclusion in a Neighbourhood Plan
